Inscription

The Roll of Honour commemorates the Second World War only. The names of personnel who died are arranged by date order, starting on 15th April, 1940, and going through the 5 years of war listing the daily losses, giving the date of loss, the rank, initials and surname of personnel, any medals awarded, their unit and squadron. The squadrons represented are 22, 812, 42, 86, 53, 59, RCAF 407, 236, 143, 254. Some of the men came from Royal Canadian Air Force squadron 407 and 236. One or two were Free French, others were USAF, HQ/6 group; altogether some 511 names are listed altogether on 2 wooden boards, each 1870mm tall x 970mm wide. There are 268 names on Board 1 and 253 names on Board 2. Some of the names have been only recently added, including a group from 1944. This is evident by the change in colour of the black background and slightly different shade of gilt paint.

MARSHALL
- Perished at sea on board the barque Perseverance of London, after leaving Cumberland Gulf, Davis Straits, in October 1901, James Marshall, shipmaster, 19 Marischal Street, Peterhead, aged 64 years.

He is gone and never will return again to his own home,
And though the raging roaring sea be lashed into a foam,
And though the monsters of the deep about him nightly crowd,
He lies in calm and perfect peace, the green seaweed his shroud."
